Headed out of Perth Monday morning to make our way down towards Manjimup. Stooped along having coffee and lunch along the way and found ourselves at the ‘Kingsley Motel’ in Manjimup. Booked in for 2 nights as we planned to explore the next day. Dinner at the motel restaurant, not much else around.
Next morning headed south towards Walpole, weather was kind and driving through Karri forest a lot of the way was very pretty. some amazing huge trees in this region. The drive down was just over an hour and on arrival made our way out to the ‘Valley of the Giants’ an amazing drive through giant Karri trees and out to the treetop walk. The trees here are all ‘Tingle’ eucalypt trees, many of them now protected in the National Park and absolutely majestic in nature.
Fortunately we had lovely weather whilst there but the drive back was rain all the way and the temperature plummeted to 12 degrees at one stage so getting back to Manjimup was welcome. Pizza for dinner tonight.
Headed off to Margaret River Thursday stooping on the way at Beedelup Falls (not much there) and a lake just outside of Pemberton. Took a tourist tram ride whilst in Pemberton, had a coffee then on to Margaret River.
Staying at Basildene Manor, one of our APVC properties, ready for the Gourmet Escape weekend.
Friday we headed off to check out a couple of wineries however most were closed today for lunch, in preparation for the Gourmet Escape weekend. Visited Moss Wood winery as part of their open day, not normally open for tasting. Kemm thoroughly enjoyed their 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon!
Head out to Gracetown on the coast to see what was there – a great holiday location but not much else. Back to Margaret River and found a nice local restaurant where we had a delightful lunch light lunch. Back to Basildene for nana nap, but not much else thereafter!
