Brenda and Kemm's travels

Peurto Vallarta, Mexico

2014, Panama Canal Cruise

A full day onshore here, Kemm had booked a tour for Tequila tasting and food at ‘wherever’, I had opted to do my own thing so took my time getting organised and eventually made my way ashore about 10.30am.

Found a couple of older ladies who were seated and waiting until their new-found guide had another few people for a city tour so joined them and a few minutes later just the three of us were off. I had planned to just use the shuttle service into town and wander but turned out the better option as we were about to embark on a 3 hour tour around the area stopping along the way at all the pertinent spots to visit and photograph.
‘Jimmy’ was a wealth of knowledge of the area and talked as though he would never stop!!!

The whole of the Mexican coastline is fairly rugged and mountainous as was this area but the coastal ports are relatively flat. Peurto Vallarta is definitely a tourist trap – they come from miles away just to holiday here so it was very much a ‘Gold Coast’ area for a holiday. There are high rise buildings along the way, lovely beaches and of course heaps of restaurants and hotels along those beaches with all the umbrellas and tables out front right on the sandy strip.

I loved the place and would be happy to holiday here but don’t see that happening in the near future! The Mexican Jewellery store we visited was delightful – one of the ladies I was with spent some time and money there and I would have loved to but was self-restrained!

Weather here was delightful as it has been most of our trip, however we are now back on board and heading north towards our final destination of San Diego and back into the United States. The weather as such is beginning to cool down out on deck so it may be back to our warmer clothes again the way things are looking.

It seems we have followed the hurricane up the coast as it petered out into a rain depression and it hasn’t bothered us at all. However we have had a couple of night on our trip of rough and heavy seas, one of which was I was sick but the second night I tightened up my wristbands I wear for sea sickness and the turbulent seas didn’t bother me so maybe I have been wearing them too loose to be effective.
