Our ship – Holland America ‘Westerdam’
Many of our cruises have been on Holland America ships but this one seems to have had an upgrade in some rooms.
Where once the TV’s were tiny little things sitting on a desk, the wall artwork previously in place has now been replaced by big screen TV’s – even bigger than our TV at home with much better clarity as well.
I suppose the technology of a 2 year old TV is superior to the 10-15 year old TV’s one would think??
Our bathroom has also had an overhaul – previously a shower over the bath and a single hand basin, we now have a separate shower only and a double vanity bench. Things are looking up!
Had the first of 3 gala dinner nights the other night – on with the glad rags, I needed to update mine and Kemm’s photo! Seems we do a nice photo every couple of years then of course stack the new one in front of the others in the same frame – they are gathering in a pile now!
Like any cruise, loads of food choices, and loads of food eaten by one and all!
I am however now into my deck walking – 6 laps of the deck is 3.2km, so yesterday and today have been accomplished, wonder if I can keep it up!

A day at sea – on every cruise there are always 2 or 3 days totally at sea with no stops – most of our travels are overnight so daytime can be spent ashore at varying locations.
A full day at sea has Bridge sessions! Partnered with an older gentleman who obviously knew way more than me but my first bid was 1 Spade, his next bid went straight to 6 Spades – holy shit I thought! But hey – I made it!!
We had a great session, our partnership had all the good cards and we beat the others by a long shot! Just a good day though I will put that down to! Doesn’t happen very often!
Plenty of time whilst at sea for reading as well and the weather has been great with hardly a cloud in the sky and seas as calm as can be. ONly hope it keeps up like that although it appears thunderstorms are on the horizon as we move further south.
Hong Kong is our final stop, from there we overnight then to Singapore one more night then back home.
