We are now into the “Main” River (Myne), a river in Germany of some 525kms. It flows through the German states of Bavaria (and boy have we tried some Bavarian beer along the way!!), Baden-Wurttemberg and Hessen. How do I know all this??? Each evening on board we are given a 4 page journal of the next days travel, excursions for the day, timings, meal timings, buses, bike tour times, ariivals and departure times from ports and entertainment for the next day etc. It’s a really comprehensive journal and will be something we keep as our memories of the trip.
Anyway Frankfurt is the largest city along the Main River but is not somewhere we are stopping as our next stop is into Wertheim, after a morning of cruising. During the morning we had a glass blowing demonstration in the lounge from one of the local glass blowers – happened to be the same age as Kemm so he knew his stuff. He only makes items out of pyrex glass nowadays but he made a couple of magnificent items whilst demonstrating and chatting to us – a very professional man. The pyrex glass is extremely durable – testament to the way he bashed items on the tables to show us!!
Wertheim was a lovely picturesque village so of course the walking tours were in full swing. Guides meet the boat at every stop and are all organised and ready to move the minute we dock usually. The township consisted of the usual quaint shops, alley ways and cobblestone streets.
I decided on the bike ride excursion today so like all others rugged up and off we went – managed to get ‘left behind though as I stopped to take a photo but meandered my way back to the ship through the village – easy to find though as you just keep heading back to the river! Kemm of course didn’t do the bike ride – still can’t quite picture that one somehow…..
It was “All Aboard” at 7pm and we were off again to cruise through the night….mmmm… where to next???
Sorry, but have this afternoon aboard and doing the afternoon catch-up – you can always come back to www.baber.com.au to catch up later rather than read through all my blurbs!
