The Rhine Gorge and Rudesheim

2010, Amsterdam to Budapest River Cruise

Today was what we referred to as ‘Castle Day” – a section of the Rhine River where all the fabulous and very old castles are situated high on the adjoining hills. All very picturesque of course so a million photos taken by all on board. Our weather for this particular day was nothing to be overexcited about – in fact it was very cold, dull and gloomy but that did not stop us all spending the day admiring the scenery along the way.

Lunchtime we arrived at Rudeshiem – the town I have already spoken about in an earlier news blurb! This was our afternoon of sunshine but still not warm enough to bare the arms just yet!

This cruise is amazing for the amount of food we are all eating – there’s something about cruising and listening to everyone ask “how long till our next meal?” As though we are starving! We get breakfast – full on, cold, hot, pastries, bacon, eggs, whatever, toast – you name it – all buffet. Then comes morning tea for those on board – tea, coffee, biscuits and fruit are available all day long, 24 hrs a day. Lunchtime is either up in the lounge on your lap or downstairs for a 4 course lunch again if you want. Then afternoon tea – well that’s a different story!!! Out come the cakes and they are to die for!!! Consequently, I look forward to 4pm EVERY DAY!!!!! Then of course comes a 4 course dinner if you want with a choice of entrees and mains – and there’s always desserts!! As if 5 meals a day is not enough!!! But ho hum, the bar is open 24 hrs as well!!!! Red or white wine, and GOOD ones are free with dinner every night – and none of this tiny glass stuff – these APT people know they have mostly Australians on board who like a ‘REAL’ glass of wine.

Suffice to say, we have been really impressed with the food and drinkies part of this trip – in fact everything about the trip is fabulous and 5 star. The crew are wonderful and all very professional, so as they say “would you refer APT to people intent on a River Cruise???” – Absolutely! We can’t fault them.
