What a fabulous place Cassis was!
Just ‘up the road’ from Marseilles but so much nicer we were told and correct, I’m sure it is! Probably a typical Mediterranean seaside port but very touristy and a great day for a boat ride out to the ‘Calanques’ – a one hour trip through the nearby inlets where sheer cliffs were quite fantastic with yachts tucked up in the inlets in absolute protection from the elements. Not that the weather was a problem, today was a beautiful mid 20 degree day, gentle breeze and no humidity. The photos I have taken don’t do the cliffs justice though – they were fabulous.
Lunch of course along the boardwalk area and as the French do, it’s all at tiny little tables outside the front of the cafe on the sidewalk with boats, people, dogs everywhere (and not a barker in sight!!!).
Dogs are very much accepted everywhere here – trains, buses, boats, inside shops, restaurants etc and they are honestly not a problem. Great to see the little people (and big) being so well accepted. Sorry Rod, just spoiled your holiday!
Kemm had a delightful seafood salad and I had something similar but a couple of odd clammy things we haven’t had before so a little bit of a taste test!
Had the couple of glasses of compulsory wine of course although me being the driver limits what I drink of course.
The bread in France is amazing! Everyone buys baguettes day and night and they are always fresh and crusty on the outside. So of course we’ve been doing the same and even slicing them in the morning for a bit of toast. Croissants are another staple part of everyone’s diet it seems – anywhere we’ve had breakfast, it’s croissant, baguette, ornage juice and coffee! I guess if you stayed in the bigger hotels there’s anything you could ask for but the staple breakfast on the street is just those items. And of course the strong espresso coffee!
So a day in the ‘Calanques’ as it’s called and seems we get back to base about 3.30pm daily for our afternoon nap and email catch up. We’ve been doing dinner in house the last few nights, nothing special as we’ve had lunches out each day.
